See here for what this series is about.
This short is by Harish Sampath. Here is a note from the filmmaker:
Making a short film is a very enjoyable as well as a tedious process, but when you make your first short film the enjoyable factor somehow disappears, Getting the right team was the biggest challenge, social media helped me a lot in this, I never knew anyone from the cast and crew before, I found them all through social media.
Budget is another big constraint, My whole team contributed to the budget so it was relatively easier.
The idea for the short film came after I watched the film “Shutter island”, I had to make N number of changes in the script to make it feasible for us to make, the actual script I wrote was very different from the film what it is now.
Getting the equipments is the real challenge, with our budget, we were able to get only the basic equipments, If you can find a cameraman who can adjust with all these constraints and still give you decent frames, you can somehow complete the film.
Amidst these constraints, The passion for making films will eventually turn the tedious process to an enjoyable one and one day we will somehow turn from amateurs to pros.

I am yet to watch this short and the previous one, but I liked the short note that the film maker wrote for this. And the title. Why do shorts have fresher titles that feature films? Is it because they are made by fresher minds?

This is a very interesting. Such fresh concepts, such fresh ideas. I hope such short stories get backed up to deliver a high production value. I really liked how Varun Manian shortlists the movies he decides to produce. We need more of such producers to back up such brilliant projects.

I saw this short yesterday and wondered why there has not been sufficient gushing about this already. It is a well-written and well-enacted short. Both the manic glint in the older guys eyes and the self-assured look in the younger guys eyes worked for me quite well.
The conversations they have on atheism and love were without frill and didn’t have the “look-at-me-I-am-a-thinker” vibe that newbies quite often tend to have. It does come across as a psychiatrist making his patient talk. I liked it that I could have seen the ending if I had paid enough attention but somehow didn’t. Some writers forget that clues should be placed in the right places and spring the ending on us. This wasn’t so.
There was a lot of swearing. The kind I only see in YouTube comments. I do know that this is how men talk. This is needed here as one of them is a frustrated lunatic and it would have been weird if everything was washed clean. But it does make it difficult to recommend it to teenagers. So perhaps you not push the short in A-certificate category? Just a suggestion.
The camera dude knows his stuff. It was quite good.
Congratulations. 🙂
—Spoiler Section—
1) Did the beggar have a part to play originally?
2) The girl did a good job in such a short time. The slight lop-sided grin as she recruits the next psychiatrist was cool.
PS – I am extremely alive to the fact that teenagers swear like there is no tomorrow. Still..

Thanks for your response @Hari ohm and @karuna iyer
@rahini thank you so much for your detailed analysis, it means a lot. I feel it is not an adult content, teens can watch it…they are bound to hear the swearings everyday..
And yes, the beggar had a bigger role in the original script 🙂

Harish: Would it be possible for you to subtitle the video/film (or atleast provide a separate subtitles film like Amit Joki did for his film). I do want to watch the film, but I can’t understand Tamil. Thanks.

இதில் எது Amateur ? எது Art?
