Just read that Anil Kapoor turns 60 today. Always a bit of a shock when one of the top heroes — and one of your favourites — from when you were a kid hits such a milestone (“where does time go?” etc.). But happy birthday and all that.
PS: That’s one of my favourite songs from one of my favourite films of his. Not the greatest dancer — but I guess one can’t have everything. Though you must say he pulls off a decent version of the “jag ghoomeya” step around the 3:00 mark.
PPS: And that jacket. How fabulous is that!

Brangan, never was a fan of Anil Kapoor. I like him in a few films like mashaal, karma or meri Jung, but otherwise always found him too loud and trying too hard
Reg jag ghoomeya:I always felt it was a double doing that move, that long shot that cuts to a close up after he is done with it.can you make out his face while he’s doing that move?, Because it feels to me as somebody else

That jacket IS Fabulous!
But it is the double and not him doing that move. Both their doubles are mostly always in the dark and faces not clearly seen. Only when it switches to ‘Them’ that you can see their faces. Also, the man while doing that move is taller and more lithe; the woman is stringy and hunching a little around her shoulders than Amrita. She does have some impressive moves from 2.48-2.54.

I always liked AK. I found him entertaining in his masala outings, and a very competent actor in his off-beat ones. I also admired him for choosing roles where he was content to play second fiddle to the heroine, and still make a mark. Also, to choose very different roles, the not-so-heroic ones as well.
That he continues to be relevant, and find different, exciting things to do is admirable.

He used to be a ‘1959 born’ – thanks to his daughter.

That song still gets me moving! Anil Kapoor belongs to the mould of actors who give their 100% no matter how shitty the material they are working with – Govinda and Sridevi are other such actors from his time. Of the newer lot Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Ranveer Singh give the same vibe…they truly “love” that they are in front of the camera and make the most of it.

t is a character in the movie which said “fresh piece” and not the director. I don’t see anything freshly alarming to jump about here. For long “figure” “color” “item” besides other terms have been used by stars and other characters in the film to refer to the actresses in question. How is this any different? I am not talking about what the director said in his interview., that’s a different issue

Anil Kapoor has always been a low key high impact performer. Ruminating on his oeuvre, there are shades of every genre performed with competence in Saaheb, Parinda, Loafer, Mr India, Pukaar, Meri Jung and delightful comedies with Madhuri whose names I cant remember.
