this reminds me of one more thing
Back in your hindu days cinemaplus used to come only on fridays so you had a week to write your reviews. Then it started coming on sundays ans then the website grew popular and now, well, you’ve got to publish it hours later
Is it possible that you give your quick gun rangans immediately, and take some time to write the reviews and publish them later?
I really miss the days when your reviews had titles like “don’t!”(don 2), “sea programming”(mariyan), and “fuck de india”(shudh desi romance).
One more thing i really miss is the lights camera conversation and the “this, that ,and everything else”
Wish we could go back to those days.

Thanks, BR.
Loved his reminiscence about wearing ‘full pants’ to an English film. And about how a trip to the theatre was a family outing that had everyone dress up. 🙂
Nice.

This is so nice. The shots of him going about his normal day is a brilliant touch, as someone mentioned in the previous video, A few things which came to my mind, that could add to the experience are:
Some close up shots of his reactions either towards the questions or his interaction with customers. Or some close-ups of objects they deal with could add to the character.
You could get them to also talk about which was the last movie they saw. What they expect from movies nowadays, if they still go to the movies that is. It’ll break some major myths I think.

Oh, my favourite from those days was this gem of review for My Name is Khan which, if I remember correctly, had My Name is Corn (Ha ha ha!) and ended with this gem of a line “My name is Karan and I am not a therapist” which in the print (or in the Sunday Express website) came as “My name is Karan and I am not a the rapist”
BR: This viewer’s voice series is brilliant. Butter biscuits and tea in a tray!

Herbal Pharmacist?
This series is throwing up some delightful terms for professions I had always heard in Tamil. 😎

Nice. Interesting to hear of the inherently class consciousness involved even in Tamil vs English picture.

Nothing like nostalgia. Shanti a tier 1 theatre; Wellington Tier 2. Whole family goes to watch a movie – I can easily connect. My childhood days, movie going is a family outing. We dress up, walk a kilometre or two to the hall, enjoy the movie with 3 intervals, kadalai mittai and murukku. More kadalai mittai if the movie is a 3 hr long tear-jerker (to calm the restless kids).
Like the format. Plus the vellanthi-ness of the pharmacist.

Lovely. The man has a casual sense of humour. And yes, I remember the snacks being sold inside the theatre. They would swipe the metal opener across the bottles and make shrill noise. Unforgettable! And getting dressed up to watch a film… wow! Another time, another life.
