Why the general opinion that Hollywood Sci-Fi movies don’t have an emotional connect? I saw a lot of comments wrt this. A lot of them are pretty emotional. What do people here mean by emotional… Lots of crying and melodrama? Hollywood movies which don’t have an emotional connect (like the attack of clones) flop.
Even hard core Sci-fi movies like Blade Runner are pretty emotional. If you didn’t connect with Rick Deckard then how does the movie work for you? Even Arrival was super emotional. Spoiler Imagine having to come to terms with the fact that time is nonlinear and still choosing to live the linear life.

Agree completely with this. I thinking Arrival is a profoundly emotional movie. But I’m not sure whether the general opinion is that Hollywood sci-fi movies lack an emotional connect.
Another great example of simple sci fi ideas having disturbing emotional implications is Black Mirror. “Dust” on YouTube has some pretty good short films as well.

Good insight into why we justify the failure of a movie but go with a movie’s flow if it’s good. I have a question about the villain not working though: Black Panther had a scenario where the villain stood for a cause and it worked really well. Is the failure of 2.0 because Rajni lacks a journey like T’Challa does?

me too likes the song picturisation of Shankar.he is a much better shooter of songs than an overall filmmaker. Its impossible to sit through sivaji, but the picturisation of the 4 songs is phenomenal. He failed to properly convey the theme of Ai through film, but that ennodu nee iruntha song sequence does a spectacular job of presenting the beauty and the beast theme . instead of top shankar films , one must do a countdown of his best song picturisations. my picks
Ennodu nee irunthal
Athiradi from sivaji
Muqala muqabla from kaadhalan
4.vaji vaji from sivaji
5.arima arima from endhiran

I have not seen most of his movies but i really like the picturization of that Siddarth and Genelia “Ale Ale” song from Boys. Captures their youthful joie de vivre perfectly.

@Rahul: Spot on about “Ale Ale”. In fact “Boom Boom” and “Ale Ale” will go down in my books as the best imagined Shankar songs ever.

BR – It looks like sometimes you don’t read the full question. Often there will be a additional question or a sentence that adds context to the first few lines. Sometimes a nuanced question would just receive a generic answer from you (presumably because you didn’t completely read the question). Not just in this video but in most #AskBR videos I have noticed this.
Is is just cut that way in the video or are you not reading the entire question?

There is a recurring problem with Indian sci-fi movies. They put some random jargons and some weird pseudo-scientific things into screenplay and call it a sci-fi movie. Plus every time movies are about explosions or some simple message told in a very expensive way. What I would like is if the makers focus more on stories like Arrival or Contact where the onus is more on inter-personal dynamics and not on how great the VFX are. Your thoughts,Sir?
P.S: The effects on bird shown is this movie is completely fake. And I would really like explanations for fifth force and other bullshit.
