BR, I like this long format interviews – nearly 2 hours. Gives both the interviewer and interviewee good time to get in to depth. Gives room for long answers which brings in clarity. Liked the way he explained the impact of Art and movie on the audience, how a movie can reinforce practices. A BIG thanks to you for bringing out a detailed interview with interesting and focused questions.
Pa ranjith is unfortunately a racist, casteist and a bigot. Why give a platform to such a bigot in a prestigious website such as Film Companion. The drivel that comes out of his mouth, not in this interview but from his twitter handle and various public utterances, should put him in jail. I liked ‘Madras’, but all his other work are mediocre. There is a youtube video of him dissing ‘Kaaka Muttai’ as he was not happy with the depiction of slum dwellers. Well this hypocrite should hang his head in shame for the way in which he portrayed devout Hindus in his crapfest ‘Kaala’.
brangan, you must consider podcasting. just take a look at The Seen and The Unseen podcast by Amit Varma. It’s 1.5 – 2hr long discussion with one person on one topic. It’s brilliant.
I think you could do an awesome cinema podcast of that type.
The problem with Youtube interviews is that it’s not convenient…can’t listen to it in office, or while walking, …
Please think about it.
Plus side for you is you don’t have to be conscious of your facial expressions and you can frown as much as you want! 😀
Part 2 of the interview is brilliant as it delved deep into why he makes movie the way he makes, very eloquent and sensible. I think his best is yet to come as a film maker, not tied down by the saleability factor of the movie. You led the interview in the right direction with wonderfful questions.

I wasn’t so much happy with the first part. But this more than made up for it. Both of you were in your elements.. Super work!
Looking forward to “Birsa Munda”.

Vinjk: I tried a bunch of apps. An app called “tube player” seems to stream audio of YouTube videos and can be played with the screen closed.
I understand it is legal to use these apps too as it just streams and not downloads.
So check it out.
