Does anyone know a website to read books? You know, like netflix where i can pay an yearly rent and read books. Because as a student i cant afford to buy that many books,as most of them cost more than 300 rs. I remember having to save up money for my friend’s birthday so that I can gift him conversations with maniratnam; i myself haven’t read it as I wasn’t able to afford another (around) 500 bucks.

@Abhishek:
Here’re a few – I am not sure of any site that’s targeted toward films..
https://gadgets.ndtv.com/internet/features/the-6-best-places-to-legally-download-ebooks-for-free-663886
https://mashable.com/article/free-ebooks/
But mind you, NOTHING can beat the feel of pages between you fingers and a book in your hand…no bloody laptop or audio-book or computer can replace that!!! But that’s just me..way too old-fashioned..

Hi Abhishekspeare 👋
The cheapest way to access books is via the local library. It’s usually free. If you are in Madras, I am sure there are few options.
There are also private lending libraries but might charge a fee. https://iloveread.in/library/ has a delivery service. There is a 10% discount for this code : ilr:31198.
Amazon has an unlimited Kindle subscription. But not sure if all the e-books are part of the package. https://www.amazon.in/b?ie=UTF8&node=14980475031. You may not really need the kindle reader as you might be able to just use the the free app.
Ryan Holiday recommended Scribd, which also offers a subscription package. But appears to be expensive. https://www.scribd.com/
I also find second books cheaper in the UK. I know Amazon India has been exploring selling used books. You can check there as well. https://www.amazon.in/Books-Used/s?rh=n%3A976389031%2Cp_n_condition-type%3A8609962031. I also use https://www.bookfinder.com/ to find cheaper used books. Sometimes I find used books shipping to UK cheaper than new books bought inside UK. eBay also could be quite cheaper. A quick search in Google for “used books india” lists few options, but not sure about their credibility. Some cities have specific areas where used books are sold. Ukkadam in Coimbatore and I think Abids in Hyderabad. You can find if there is one in your city. Sometimes book fairs also have some good deals.
You could also consider joining local groups like https://www.freecycle.org/browse/IN/India where people give away used books for free
Hope this helps.

I have always found it amusing how these directors come across as more intelligent and knowledgeable through these books (and interviews) than through their films. 🙂
