Great interview. Whatever she may (or may not) be, Kangana is a great actress, and someone who’s passionate about her craft. This is the kind of interviews she should be doing more- discussing her craft and the process. Of course, Brangan is the perfect guy to do it with her.

After this interview, I feel that you should interview more folks from the Hindi film industry. As much as I enjoy you interviewing other folks from other regional film industries, I think it would be quite wonderful to hear you converse with them in the future.

This will be a blockbuster…For all that has been said about Kangana (none of which I will take back), Thalaivi was an impressive trailer that really blew me (especially how much Arvind Swamy looked like MGR) and I will watch it in theatres.

@BRo you went straight for the soul. Of course, as you repeatedly said about your process, I don’t know how much work went in preparing her for the interview. This was so good, especially in comparison with pa. Ranjith’s latest interview. This should be compiled into a book/documentary. The connecting line in all your conversations seem to be spiritual energy/faith that drives artists.

It’s been a while since Kangana came off as so likeable. Wish the interview had been longer.
The first look was terrible and KR looked fake, made up and nothing like J. Maybe if there had been no covid and the movie had released in early 2020 itself, it would have been way different.
Agree completely on the trailer though. It is so awesome and it would be a shame if this movie doesn’t release in the theatres.
P.S. That “Mahabharata has another name – Jaya” line in the trailer gave me goosebumps. It’s a wonderful, wonderful line. Whoever came up with it is sheer genius.

Also, one wonders what happened to the second and third parts of the Queen series on MX Player. It was very riveting and the theme music was glorious.

Her so called “spiritual process” is a bit vague and doesn’t quite explain the mechanics well. how does it, for instance, tie in with her very generic performance in Manikarnika? Whereas with Pasupathy, his mechanics of acting was much more lucid and it was easier to see from where and how he was deriving inspiration from when he explained it. But she sure knows how to make the right noises in promo interviews. Going by just the trailer Arvind Samy looks the part more than her. JJ was on the plumpier side right from her young days. Seems like Kangana has bene roped in for her star value as well…not sure if she will fully disappear into JJ’s character or if she will keep reminding us of herself on screen. Let’s see..

This was one the best interviews i have ever seen of anyone. Kanganas responses, calm demeanor, articulation – fantastic. Thank you for providing her that space/opportunity. The closing line of acting being evolution of the soul and not scarring – how evolved a thought process she has.

ai ai, Baddy! for your question on south movies in the beginning (17:38) when she said big mistake – you chuckled so hard and I did too, I believe we may have thought the same thing. Are others thinking it too?

@Voldemort: I think that horrifying first look was actually a look test, the shooting had barely begun by then. And yes, the Mahabharata has another name line sold me totally. Of course, these things happen when you have KV Vijayendra Prasad as the writer.

It would be interesting to see if the portions that shows the current state ruling party in bad light would be allowed to be screened.if and when it releases in theatres, Going by the trailer, there could be quite a few.

Aman Basha : Ah, right.
Prat : Thanks for that article. LOL at
Jayalalithaa gets elevated to high office, leaving roomfuls of sycophants bowing to her will, and Ranaut looking like she’s exactly where she wants to be.

I am not looking forward to this movie at all. Everything in the interview suggests that this movie is going to go “rah rah rah What a Woman” mode on Jayalalitha with zero nuance or negative shades. Any criticism of that is going to be lambasted as misogyny or DMK stance or northern anti-Tamil bias or whatnot.

Wow. The Kangana in this interview and the Kangana on Twitter – It’s like two different people. I am looking forward to the film only to see how Kangana has played it. From the trailer, it doesn’t look like we’re going to get a nuanced film. Vijay hasn’t quite made those films in the past for us to expect anything different. It is probably going to be an unabashed glorification made for the Amma worshippers.

This is such a wonderful interview. Kangana is very articulate, thoughtful in her responses and comes across as very honest. Some of her answers came out really deep.
Thanks for this interview. Need more such interviews from you Brangan.

Brilliant interview! Sounds like the old Kangana when she talks about craft, technique, hard work, psychology. BR you also seem so comfortable, natural and smooth with interviews in English.
@doba I know what you mean, you may be right. Bringing out the negative sides is the writers or directors job, the actor just has to play the role from inside the characters head. Like everyone lives thinking they are quite justified in whatever they do. So it depends on whose viewpoint the story is told from right? Like what she said about the Panga role. That was quite an amazing insight.
I recently read *Becoming Madame Mao”. A few parallels but of course she was never the successor to her husband and met a tragic end, the opposite of Jayalalitha’s rise to power.
