Spoilers ahead…
The same screenwriter Bobby-Sanjay and director Manu Ashokan, come back together for another film after Uyare—Kaanekkaane which stars Suraj Venjaramoodu, Tovino Thomas, and Aishwarya Lekshmi. Like in Uyare, Kaanekkaane is about two layers of stories, and neither one is more important than the other. Usually, you have a text story and a sub-text kind of story, but here both are important and they keep shifting so it feels like the soil is shifting beneath our feet as we are watching the movie.

Wow, after burning up the screen in Mayanadhi is this the long awaited (by me) chance to see Tovino and Aishvaryra Lekshmi together?

Krishikari, Aishvaryra Lekshmi indeed looked great in that film , but I am not sure if it was because the film itself was so ethereal , the camera angles, the close ups , the dialogues . I saw a couple of other films but she did not look half as beautiful.

I have never felt so soo – really I dont know how to say in English – and engaged by a character, of Suraj’s, after Kani in Biriyani..
I agree wholeheartedly with all your points Sir.. The last 10 or 15 mns is what kept this movie from becoming among the best of the bestest in malayalam, for me.
Suraj is the best actor, underrated still in some ways may be because of his comedic roles in the past. I can only see the late Thilakan or Mammooty doing this as well or better, from our veterans or present actors, than him.
I really wish his accident with the right hand had never happened.. That hand draws a bit of unwanted attention, in his body language, sadly.. What an actor..
Mayanadhi and now this.. Tovino is really doing it..

@rahul, it wasn’t just her. It was the two of them together. Incredible chemistry (which they say is just good acting and directing).
As an aside, Tovino as a villain in Maari 2, was the most ridiculous casting. This sweet faced guy in that role, especially with the strong malayali accent, was so wrong.
Suraj is someone to look forward to in any role. Where can I see this film???

“I had a mixed feeling about the movie, and it’s about a very melodramatic event that happens, and this event helps things come full circle.”
I have seen such unexpected , random, unpredictable, and unbelievable things happen in real life. I have also seen people change, react and act differently after they go through life changing events that turn their life upside down.
I do not get surprised anymore by any turn of events that happen in life or movies anymore. I absolutely believe any and every melodramatic/random event can happen anytime anywhere.
I heard the same criticism by some people about the movie “Home” movie as to how some things are conveniently wrapped up in the end and that there are too many unbelievable coincidences and drama.
I believe anything is plausible…in movies or in life. I mean, who would have thought a microscopic virus would shut the whole world down and kill people so mercilessly. Such random stuff happens all around us that it is crazy. I think the movies show the same random craziness and the same people’s random reaction to random stuff….drama or no drama.

Just caught up with this film…what a lovely film! Suraj has remarkably matured as an actor, given all the comic roles he did for many years. I wouldn’t have ever imagined he had this in him. As for Tovino, I like him a lot and have been a huge fan for a few years now. He did not disappoint. Mostly, he seems to be picking good scripts and excelling in them. Similarly, I thought Aishwarya was great too, each of them had their own moments that were memorable. I have to say, it’s so refreshing to watch such good drama and directed with so much poise and restraint. Lovely film…
