A wonderful interview yet again from Maddy. The guy speaks well and can communicate his ideas and thought process very eloquently.
That was an interesting question about his acting technique. As you had mentioned – he does not use a gimmick or a style for the character. But the funny thing to that is he does not appear as Madhavan in every character that he does. Each character seems to have a life of its own. Not sure how he managed to do that and I don’t think he knows that either 🙂
Waiting to see what he has done with Rocketry. The subject matter is very interesting and given his sensibilities, I expect the film to be good (and not the Jai Bhim variety 😉 )

what happened to Rocketry nambirajan movie? Looks like it has been in the works for ever. Unless I missed its release on OTT

You echo my thoughts @shaviswa.
@Baradwaj, wondering if in future, you would review any of the movies mentioned here : https://www.rediff.com/movies/special/ten-films-you-must-watch/20211111.htm

The world would be a better place if there was a show called “Baddy & Maddy” 😀

I don’t know. I feel like Maddy (intentionally) didn’t reach/realize his full star potential. Imagine how a cool dude like Rajesh (Minnale) meets a straightforward crusader like Thiruchelvan (Kannathil Muthamittal) meets brutal reality of Inba (Ayutha Ezhuthu) be like. He would have his own Ayutha Ezthu or Anniyan type mass-y masala movie!

@sanjay2706: For some reason, I am now picturing “Baddy, Baddy, Oh Oh Baddy” in my head, with BR wearing shades and a cigarette with a gang behind him looking all cool 😅

Watched the first 5 minutes of the interview. Kudos to Madhavan for admitting that he wasn’t a skilled dancer and wasn’t cut out to play the mass roles that the audience wants to watch in the state. So he looked for other opportunities and found his niche.
This was one of my gripes with most of the actors who don’t have the skills to survive in the commercial landscape . They take a high and mighty attitude and blame the poor taste of the audience and say that they are above singing and dancing and playing tapori roles.
Thankfully he put the onus on himself and talked about his shortcomings. Love him for that.

He thought Charlie movie had holes in it bcoz the Charlies’ back story wasn’t told explicitly? Wasn’t that the aim of the whole movie…to portray Dulquer as this magical “Jinnu” who is a mystery. Isn’t that what worked for the movie? Oru karimukilinu song showed that so well.
With backstory and detailed explanation of the character, won’t he become another typical do-gooder Indian film hero? The mystery surrounding him was the newness factor.
How did Maara do? Was it better than/as good as Charlie?

The best part of this chat to me was the insight Madhavan gave into what he did to play the Colonel part in Rang De Basanthi. Most interviews these days lack such insights into the mechanics of the process.

@Charlie
Maara was a boring film. It was released on OTT so can’t say if the film was a success or not
