Fantastic Round Table BR. I agree with Don that the Malayalam industry makes a lot of bad low effort movies that outsiders don’t see. I also agree about the fact that hyper localization of the script (for eg. Kanhangad in Thinkalaycha Nishchayam) has its own charm. One other fact which I think also makes Malayalam movies interesting is the collaboration between authors and filmmakers. For eg. S. Hareesh and Binyamin (JCB Prize winners) have their books adapted to movies. And a Jnanpith Award winner like M.T Vasudevan Nair set the standard by scripting and directing movies.

I’m not sure why Don Palathara was going on about the amount of low quality films made in Malayalam unless it was to point out that audiences in Kerala are not that discerning and will watch any crap just like anywhere else. But anyway i’m watching his film Santhoshathinte onnam rahasyam on neestream today. I’ll try not to pause, fast forward or get up to make tea.

I’m the audience who watch a movie over a week. At any given point I’m watching 3-4 movies, just like I’m reading 3-4 books at a time, depending on the mood :).
All this will change once I get back to office.
