In your review of this movie, you write: “Music manipulates. Sound just is.” and “Acting manipulates. These people just are.” Sometimes, I forget how good you are in your job! 🙏

It would be interesting to see the film’s fate at the Oscars. It could possibly go all the way. For the sake of the director, I hope it does.
I have historically been pretty bearish about the Oscars, especially for foreign films. I think Lagaan winning one 20 years ago would have been great for India, it represented “Indian” Cinema very well and would have exposed viewers to a new kind of “fun” cinema, possibly converting at least a few to be long term watchers of our films. Koozhangal might be an amazing film, but going by its description and trailer, it seems to be very…”artistic”. I feel the film will have a pretty limited audience even within India.
I still hope it wins just because of quality of the film and the director’s conviction, but I fear if it does, our filmmakers are going to be funding LA’s restaurant and hospitality industry for the next 10 years.
