Have you decided to completely ignore Malayalam movies in galatta plus BR? Haven’t seen anything from you recently on Salute, Veyil, Night drive, Bheeshma, Lalitham Sundaram. I’m not saying all of these are great movies. Just checking if you are only reviewing Tamil movies and only big budget movies from other industries in galatta plus?

Adding couple more to the above list-
Pada, Naradan and the roasting of Aarattu 🙂

Deepthy: I think it’s just a lack of time. He did review “small” films like “Pedro” and “Mee Vasant Rao.”

I dont agree with BRs justification for the whole movie not being cut like a trailer. I felt the same not because of just the editing (in fact I agree with BR on the editing) but because of the constantly blaring BGM punching its way through even a basic conversation between supporting characters. Its the combination of the hyperstylized cinematography, editing and BGM which becomes exhausting after a point. Doing something unique with the form doesn’t mean you confound the audience with your indulgences. Case in point – the dark cuts within the car chase, thats where they spectacularly dropped the ball. There’s no sense of geography to the action and the 1 second black screen pulls you out of the scene just when you’re trying to make sense of it.

I agree with Jimmy about the editing in the car chase. After a certain point, you just want it to be over with, after the constant whiplash from being pulled in and out of the scene.

I totally second this. The action sequences in the film are a big let down, it’s Michael Bay level bad. no sense of beginning, progression, geography , end; nothing really registers. Compared to the effort put into world building, the set designs and costumes and all, the haphazard manner in which the action is choreographed is really shocking. This is where Rajamouli really scores. The action choreography in the Bahubali films, especially the climax of the first one was phenomenal.

I do completely agree with BR regarding the way the movie was cut, back and forth and so on. It was refreshing and elevated the thrill one felt, so much. The BGM, editing, cinematography all added (along with the packed cheering crowd) to provide one breathtaking experience in cinemas.
