One of the characteristics of Impressionism is that the further you are the “clearer” the art form gets. This composition is a beautiful instance of the style. The asymmetry of the tune and the orchestral bits keep us at a distance — and we are not able to “put together he whole” at once. But after a few listens, the distance vanishes, everything coheres. If you look closely, there’s also a 1950s-Broadway feel to the arrangements.

This is brilliant. Will need to work this beauty out on the keyboard, so many shifts and that’s just the ones on the surface hitting me on the first listen. Wonder what else I will find when I break it down.
And thanks for the heads up, BR. Because there’s probably no other way I would have heard of this song. Why tf does this have just 9k views after a week? Wow. This social media algo thing really sucks donkey balls, to borrow the expression of a friend of mine.

Thanks Baddy for writing about this track, much appreciated! Prasanna is an incredibly talented musician….who also composed the superb “Kannil Mazhai” previously.

Shankar : Thanks for directing me to Kannil Mazhai. It’s like 21st century Raja arrangements wedded to an upbeat Yuvan/Harris melody. But all that bright rock energy also evokes, for me, the work of Norwegian DJ turned jazz rock guitarist Owane.
