@Rocky – Similar background erected for all the interviews means that this was a ‘time slot’ interview. 20 minutes each, tops, for each YT channel, I guess.
And VJS did tell in an FC roundtable that he used to speak Hindi sparingly during his non-cinema days and that he’d been working on his diction for his Hindi roles.
Hey guys, can someone confirm if Vijay dubbed for himself in Telugu as well, or it was a good impersonator performing their duties? Going by the zero nuance here in the Telugu-dubbed trailer, I am positive it was him. But one can never know!
Hi BR, will you be reviewing this web series? Anyone watching this here, what are people’s thoughts? I started with the first episode and have to say I am not hooked as yet, definitely not as gripping or as good as Family Man.
Watched Farzi. It picked up pace after 4 episodes. Good watch. VJS is no match for Manoj Bajpayee. And no match for The Family Man either. But Farzi has its own charms. Just like VJS has his own charm and screen presence. He slowly grows on you. And there is Shahid Kapoor and Bhuvan Arora who played his friend.
Not as good as Family man, the best scenes were between VJS and Zakir Hussain, pure magic. eg. – Zakir Husaain tells VJS- BC minister ko translator bana diya hai . LOL !!
Raashi Khanna is hot.
It gets boring in the middle but the last episode is very good. KK Menon as a bad guy mein maza nahee aaya . He is better off playing Himmat Singh in Special Ops.
I saw the first 2 episodes and was v bored. VJS is terrible – his sarcastic schtick is so played out and he’s really out of his depth in both english and hindi. Like the minister is the one that gets the laughs, VJS looks so unconvincing. Does it get better? I found Family man silly but v engaging. Even KK menon was v unconvincing.
I think it’s cos I can’t buy the characters or the premise. Shahid is either miscast or delivers a substandard performance. No charm – boring. He looks tired and bored throughout and makes me feel bored watching him. Makes me realize how valuable Bajpayee is, in Family man. Amol Palekar is meh. Anyone who runs a magazine that is of no value to anyone but the editor after 20 years is a narcissist, not a krantikari. So far, only the politician and Raashi Khanna are half decent. Disappointing. One hour episodes are the bane of web series. Really makes them drag everything.
Agree with Anon partly. You can watch first 2 episodes and last 2 episodes of Farzi. And if interested go through other episodes leisurely. I skipped Arya 2 completely and also Delhi Crime 2. Even Money heist did not make any sense in its 5th or whatever season.
The note making process looked interesting. Hope finance Ministry and RBI guys watch it.
Thanks to everyone who responded! I have to agree with Anon re: Shahid Kapoor. I honestly couldn’t bear him on the screen and I used to be such a big fan of his. I think I will wait for Gulmohar for my next Hindi web series binge.
5 episodes in, this looks like a big misfire – a pale imitation of the very entertaining family man. VJS is clearly out of his depths here trying to fill the size zillion shoes of Manoj Bajpayee. In contrast to the family man, none of the side characters have any flavour or colour. The law of diminishing returns seems to have caught up with Raj-DK.
@Cathy I made the sacrifice so you don’t have to. Watched the whole thing on ff. It does not get better. whole thing was a mega snoozefest. Total amateur hour. Plot is silly and unbelievable, so are the characters. Worst of all, I didn’t care about any of them cos there’s not one endearing trait among the lot and of course, terrible writing. Dialogue is baaad. I’m shocked this came from Raj and DK. I liked the family dynamics in Family man much more than the unrealistic intelligence stuff – in Farzi, it just gets bad to a new level.
Raj and DK, you guys need to stop showing middle class Indian uncles spouting American catch phrases at every turn. Maybe n 20 years time, they’ll talk like this. The westernization does not fit at all and is laughable. I’ll still watch Family man s3 – pl don’t fuck it up.
VJS is a one trick pony and he can only play himself. I did not buy his character for a second in this. His delivery is so terrible, I was laughing at his dialogues and general moronery. Plot is on the writers but not selling the char and making him a joke is entirely on VJS.
Just to add, when I say VJs delivery is terrible, I don’t even mean diction/pronunciation (though that is terrible also), I mean his face expression does not even match what he is saying. It looks like he mugged up a piece of dialogue and is mouthing it and his face in no way conveys what he is saying. You would think it’s his first gig. See politician guy in the same scenes as him.
Farzi may not be a firecracker like The family man (season 2 especially), but it is quite an engaging watch and I was certainly not disappointed.
The thing I like about the creators of this show is the level of research they have done and how they have mostly made it as part of the plot and not shoving it on the face. It starts off with a slow burn (but no complaints at all), picks up pace in the middle and then sprints to the end.
Things that did not work for me:
1) Filmy style scenes & stunts towards the climax. Fan service to Shahid fans maybe?
2) VJS is sleep walking the role as usual, but his character fails to make a strong impact. Faces setback tad too many times and does not seem to strongly impose upon his nemesis at any point of time.
Also the side story about his troubled married life did not seem to add any value at all (unless it develops in upcoming seasons), unlike the estrangement of the Family man that added contours to the characters of the lead.
3) Number of episodes I felt were overall less. For a content of this kind, they could have developed it more. Especially the transition to the finale and the romance portions of the protaganists felt rushed.
@Ram: Good to see some positive views. This web series has its charms. Even I felt VJS family issues did not strike a chord. It felt forced.
The last filmy style stunt was needed to compensate Shahid’s passive act throughout.
R. Madhavan would have done more justice to the role than VJS. The actor who played Shahid’s friend was good as his conscience keeper. Vikrant Massey would have done better than Shahid Kapoor as the Artist. Wrong casting. Wasting crores just for a star’s name.

Raj, DK are quite underrated and their movies are thoroughly entertaining. Their first movie Flavors was total fun.
