Spoilers ahead…
This is not a subtle movie, but when lawyers or teachers are on screen, the preaching and the messaging automatically assume context. It does not feel like the usual random advice from a random do-gooder hero.
There’s a terrific bit of irony in Mansore’s 19-20-21. The story revolves around the tribal people in the forests of the Western Ghats. They have no electricity, no toilets – it’s a long list of the essentials that they don’t have. They don’t have roads, either. A tribal man says that if they had roads, it would be easier for their children to visit them. But then, someone else says, it would be equally easy for the forest police to visit them. Perhaps they are better off as they are. The film opens in 1998, at a point when the police begin to beat up a group of tribals for collecting forest produce like honey. And we get to Irony No. 2. Imagine being punished for plucking fruits from the very trees that you have planted. That’s not all. Irony No. 3 is just around the corner.

I am contradicting myself from my earlier comments, but nowadays i wait for the video review even when the written form is available . Listening to the video is significantly less cognitive load than reading. Doesnt have to be video, just audio is fine too.

Bala: I would agree. These days i have slowly started preferring video/audio coz it is less ‘effort’ for the brain

Reading habits are dying.
In this context, I present my own experience.
I used to read books before going to bed. But now
You Tube has become my night time friend. And I sleep well, have happy dreams after watching some of them.
Words of Wisdom stories, Zen stories, Buddha’s stories, with some grammatical mistakes . Sadhguru’s fluent talk, Govardhan das’s happy talk and some standup comedy. And food, street food, travel talks ending with requests to subscribe and like.
These have replaced book reading temporarily.
But these videos will also have expiry date once they exhaust all their better quality material. Just like films. How many worthwhile films will be made in future?
Once again it will be back to good old books. Nothing can replace certain things in life. Like old songs.

By the way Gulmohar on hotstar is getting some praise. Reminds me of Kapoor and Sons.
