Spoilers ahead…
The advantage of remaking something is that you can fix the flaws, and no one seems interested in that. But one aspect of the writing is that it keeps things moving and relatively painless.
Farhad Samji’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is the story of four brothers. Three of them are named Moh, Ishq and Love. The fourth brother is played by Salman Khan, and he does not have a name in the film – but we figure it out in our heads. The others are Moh, Ishq and Love – so Salman has to be Prem, his best-loved character on screen. Early on, we learn that Prem-who’s-not-called-Prem hates the idea of marriage because he thinks the bride who enters the household will cause a rift between the brothers. But the other brothers are already in love, and a match is quickly found for Prem-who’s-not-called-Prem. She’s Bhagya, and she’s played superbly by Pooja Hegde. For this kind of hero-worship movie, it’s surprising to see very convincing scenes like the one where Bhagya acts out a dilemma she’s in, between love and family – but perhaps the trick is to “believe” the make-believe. Pooja sells Bhagya with a sweetness that goes a long way towards making the film bearable.

Hi, Mr. Rangan. Big fan here. Is it just me or r u getting more lenient towards Bollywood films and a little more critical towards the South? If so, is it because you have a specific standard in your mind about Southern movies and don’t mind the OTT-ness of the Bollywood films or is it because whatever comes outta Bollywood nowadays is just below mediocre crap is the benchmark and you just can’t give a crap? Anyways, can’t wait for October, when you’re doing a pre-release interview, review and ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ of Leo.

I’m surprised with this review, even the hard core Bhai-log have trashed this one. My only interest in this is it’s a good case study to understand Bhai’s muslim fanbase and how it operates.
Or maybe, as I’ve always thought, BR is a good box office barometer and this movie does well. Let’s see where Monday goes.
“Better than Radhe”-Oh, that one was hard to top 🙂

Ohh Veeram remake is it? That was one really bad aruvai movie that I left halfway from the theatre. Cannot imagine that movie needed to be remade.

@BR – I thought you meant this as sarcasm but you really did think she was superb huh?! It really is a new day everyday!

Judging from Baddy’s review , I think Kisi Ka Bhai.. is like Vijay’s Varisu , a movie that isn’t sure on whether to be a fun spoof of the tired , clichéd family drama or a serious take on it.
On one hand , we have Vijay mocking the formula and at the same time we have him acknowledge the formula by making him mouth dialogues like ” kudumbam na aayiram irukum , aana namaku irukiradhu ore kudumbam dhana”.

I think yours is the only ‘positive’ (-ish?) review I have seen of this movie!

Generic review? For a generic film? For a generic heroine? For a generic bhai? Understandably a bhai film like this cant have a specific review!

At least in the trailer, all the scenes between Khan and Hegde looked utterly cringy. While not the best worded critique, I think Sukanya Varma is on to something when she says in her review:
“Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ka Jaan is exactly the sort of hack job that happens when a superstar in denial misconstrues career fatigue as a challenge that needs to be fought off with more career fatigue.”

The general expectation seems to be that I should trash this film. But I genuinely liked the addition of Venkatesh instead of a “dummy piece” father. I genuinely enjoyed Pooja’s performance in this inane role (that dilemma scene is solid). And Manikandan’s cinematography is really wonderful, especially in that big shootout.
musical v: Hahaha. The “specific” review would be “they took VEERAM and actually made it watchable” — but I didn’t dare go there 😀

Frankly, as far as what it sets out to do, this is far more “honest” film than TU JHOOTHI…

I’d still give this one a skip. Made a conscious decision to stay away from Salman movies long ago — where apart from very few exceptions (his last few, especially since 2016, have become progressively worse, even by his standards), it almost always becomes about the leading star and how everyone and everything around him is conveniently adjusted to cater to that persona.

The last Bhai movie people were excited for was Bharat, because Ali Abbas Zafar was making it. It was a bad movie, but the films after that have gotten so much worse. Even his fans warned him against Dabbang 3 and he rejected Bhansali because he wouldn’t partake in his berozgar yojana.
I am genuinely worried looking at Salman in these movies, he’s become so tired and dull that he looks depressed at times. More than the movies, his drained appearance is the worst part of the film. Not to get started on his stiff body and the laughable memes his dance is (he was very good in Wanted).

You did go there for Katamarayudu. Though I am not on the same page, I was definitely happy with the slightly refined love track in the Telugu remake.
To quote you from that firm’s review, “When you’re talking about the oldest of wines, every little attempt to make the bottle look new helps.”

It’s a ton of clichés, sure, but it merely keeps you glancing at your phone during the boring bits, as opposed to making you want to gouge your eyes out
LOL.
