Spoilers ahead…
Scene after scene is set up to portray Vijay Antony as a saviour named Anti Bikili. He even gets a fight like a mass-hero.
Vijay Antony has co-written, edited, directed, and composed the music for Pichaikkaran 2 – and he appears in a double role in this spiritual sequel to his 2016 hit. He doesn’t play the same character here, but he’s, again, a beggar: this time, his name is Sathya. In the other role, he is a super-rich businessman named Vijay. There’s an element of sci-fi in this story, which involves brain transplant. For a bit, I started asking “logical” questions like this: If I get someone else’s brain, do I also inherit their memories? But it doesn’t matter because the transplant results in a terrific twist on the Robin Hood narrative: taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Only here, Vijay takes his own money and gives it to the poor.

But what i fail to understand is that, if 2000 is going to continue to be legal tender, then what is the purpose of this announcement in the first place? Why couldn’t the printing, and therefore the availability, of 2000 notes have been quietly and gradually brought down and made so insignificant eventually, that no one would bother to notice anymore? If it was to bring out black money stocked in 2000s then, it should not have been kept as legal tender. Maybe I am missing something here?

Slightly off the topic but do you respond to comments on old movies?Recently, I watched Ok kanmani. And I had a lot of problems with the story. I kind of felt your review missed those plot holes. And I wanted to talk about it in that thread. Also I have no idea whether anyone there talked about these specific points. I will post a comment anyway. Hopefully I will get some answers.

The hullabaloo and hype over Demonetization (greatest decision in Indian history) is the biggest proof of how idiotic the Indian population is. And I’m not even talking about the nano chips.
Such a Tughlaq decision was hailed and celebrated as a masterstroke, even and especially by the educated elite of our nation. Then we wonder how fans go nuts about Thala whenever he sleepwalks in slow motion.

Hari: That was just my way of posing the question. I am well aware people are busy. I am not gonna get upset because “Baddy” didn’t reply. Don’t worry. (Tongue firmly in cheek)

Wasn’t it mentioned that 2000 Re. note was brought to quickly replace demonitinzed currencies and that it would be temporary. The timing of this annoucement of course is political.

@Madan: “nashnl security”-If that was their concern, Manipur would be at the top of everyone’s attention and headlines. But some third rate film maker will make another propaganda film on that and then they’ll remember Manipur is part of the Indian union.
Have to love BR and the subtle way he expresses his politics, not very unlike Mani Ratnam.

The ” Vidai Kodu Engal Naade ” song from Kannathil Muthamittal might be the only direct political statement he’s ever made in his movies excluding the jingoism in Roja and the Hindu – Muslim unity thing in Bombay.
Had he made Dil Se and Kannathil Muthamittal now , Mani would have got crucified by the media for portraying the north easteners as ” terrorists” and showing a Sinhalese guy as a peace lover despite the stories are not about those respective issues.

Mani Ratnam’s politics has always veered towards humanism instead of a rigid attachment towards right wing or left wing ideologies. Which is why a Roja or Bombay comes across as embracing the right wing ideologies while Dil Se, Kannathil and Raavanan seem aligned to the left. His voice was at its loudest and most impactful in Kannathil than his other films.

But again people would say that he’s made a mockery outta the LTTE by showing them as merciless mercenaries who would come out of nowhere and suicide bomb your car and simultaneously shows the Sinhalese as peace loving people.
