I really liked this interview. Especially his elaboration on bringing up and the movies referred like, “Akka Thangai”, “Vandi Chakkaram”, “Velliakizhamai Viratham” etc. He is earnest and sincere.
I’ve lapped up even his average movies like “PullaKuttikaran”, “Abhimanyu”, “Unnaruge naan irundhaal”, “Sabash” etc in those days.. He is an intelligent person who could not sustain that intelligence or interest throughout the movie in general.. Only a few portions and bits (pun intended) stand out.
This movie “Oththa seruppu” oddly reminds me of “Kudaikkul Mazhai” though. Hope it doesn’t suffer the commercial fate as the other. Hoping it runs (or walks) longer..

Looks like he is embarrassed about the Ullae Veliyae kind of movies that he did. And he does agree that after Sugamana Sumaigal, he had to take that route.
I like Parthipan the actor more than the director. And his voice is an asset.
He made a very pertinent point on audience taste and how that has evolved. 10-15 years back Vijay Sethupathi would not have been a success that he is today.

I remember writing ‘House Full’ as my favourite movie in all my 10th standard friends’ Slam Book 😀. After watching it I was looking forward for his other movies but kind of gave up on him after a while. So haven’t watched any of his recent directions. ‘Oththa Seruppu’ trailer looks interesting.
Thanks BR. Nice interview.

Wonderful interview. Really liked your question about whether the audience gets technical differences like framing given that not many directors have followed Mani’s lead. And Parthiepan’s candour in accepting that he was confused after Ulle Veliye or that Nayagan made him feel like a very ordinary filmmaker is much appreciated.

It reminds me of the danish movie called guilty available on Netflix. Hope it’s on a rip-off…

Loved the interview. Impressed by Parthiepan’s openness and honesty, honesty in accepting his lack of awareness when he made Puthia Pathai. Liked the way he went about explaining why the story looked normal to him at that time. Plus his brand of humour which shows up in the interview too – innocence vs ignorance

Nice interview.
BTW, even he couldn’t explain the phenomenon behind Bhagyaraj being hailed as the “screenplay guru”.
