Well done. Am enjoying these #AskBR sessions. Should this only be restricted to new releases? Would like to have one on movies like Kaatru Veliyidai. Now that the year is coming to an end. Am looking forward to a summary / discussions on the movies of 2017 🙂

Actually, since this week is a slow movie week, we were wondering if we should do an #AskBR on an older film — we were thinking really old (70s, 80s), but maybe something like KV would be good too.
And thanks. 🙂

BR, dear God, take a breath, man! 🙂 Love that you’re taking questions, but you don’t have a train to catch, do you?

This has got nothing to do with Velaikkaran movie but I thought I would ask anyway. I was just wondering – Just like the “common man” suffers from Monday morning blues, do you ever suffer from Friday morning blues? The opposite of Thank God Its Friday – Let’s say ‘Oh My God Its Friday’! Do you ever get fed up, especially when, making use of the lull before festival releases, a string of ‘never heard that they were even being made’ films release on the same day & you are faced with the unenviable task of finding something meaningful to write about each of them!

Karthik: Haha. It’s something I warn all my students about, when they say “I want to be a film critic.” I tell them no Friday offs ever, so think very carefully about this line 🙂
But no, every job has its pros and cons, and considering what I’ve gained, I’m not complaining. It’s like, say, being the radio host of the 5-7 am slot. You lose something, but you get something too.
But “finding something meaningful to write about each of them” isn’t what I set out to do. You can’t always find meaning in movies. But yes, you could say “finding something coherent to write about each of them,” and sometimes, yes, it is a bummer 🙂

Thank god that i am a modern knight-errant. For me all days are sundays of uniform grey shade, no morning blues. Besides this early rising is unhealthy, you get the best of sleep from 7am to 10am. No rank of nobility or peerage enjoys more immunities and priviliges, there is no precedent of a knight errant ever paying taxes or fare or rent for lodging. And what bureaucrats are not proud of his company? and what damsels of his love? And lastly I can cudgel four hundred such rogues to pieces, if they have the impudence to oppose me.

BR, um a genuine question here:
Do you really believe Sivakarthikeyan is a ‘huge star’…??
I must confess, I’m not too aware about the extent of his fan following, market, ‘stardom’ (if and when he achieved it) etc, hence why I asked…
When I think of ‘huge stars’ in the Tamil Industry, the likes of Vijay, Ajith, maybe Dhanush or Suriya, and of course Kamal and Rajini spring to mind, so yeah…
P.S. Wishing you a very Happy New Year!!

The typewriter in background is for symbolism, BR has known Bronx alleys and Chicago streets and the typewriter experts. Mr. Thompson can’t be shown in the background, hence the symbolic artefact.
