The film stars Yami Gautam Dhar and Priya Mani. The movie simplifies – and necessarily so, for narrative reasons – a very complex issue. And as a movie, it works.
The only way to watch a historical movie – whether it’s the biopic of a character, or the biopic of a political act, like Article 370 – is to keep in mind Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon. Depending on a number of factors from our political beliefs to personal prejudices, the “truth” on screen is not necessarily the “truth” that happened. What matters, then, is whether the film – without too much embellishment – presents a version of what could have possibly happened. Director Aditya Suhas Jambhale manages that quite well in this effective, entertaining primer on the abrogation of Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu & Kashmir. The film opens with Kashmir being described as an open-air jail and ends with pictures indicating that all is well now. The movie, in other words, simplifies – and necessarily so, for screenplay reasons and censorship reasons – a very complex issue. And taken purely as a movie, it works.

Perhaps a good place to post something I saw recently. One of the most balanced perspectives on Article 370 I have come across and no wonder it’s a lecture for UPSC students and not a monologue by a talking head (which perhaps would have been more biased one or the other way). Whilst explaining in great depth how it was that A 370 came about, he (correctly) predicted that the govt’s abrogation of A-370 was in fact a very well thought out and legally researched step and would be upheld by the judiciary:

A villain is created at the start of the movie, and he doesn’t appear in the rest of the movie until the last 10 mins. That’s a poor screenwriting choice, in my opinion.
Pulwama attack portions, sure, shock us but don’t move us emotionally the way it should. Perhaps because either the deceased person was not a central character or his involvement with the central character was not fleshed out properly. I would call this poor direction.
Also, the decision not to showcase the lives of the two lead women beyond their work made their characters cardboard, unidirectional and devoid of real life to me.
And the home ministry portions involving the mystery of the documents were simply laughable in my taste.
In short, the movie didn’t work for me.

Moving my comments here –
Watched Article 370 last night. Extremely well made movie. Yami is the star of the movie , script is so good that it never lets you get distracted or bored. The fight in the end was however too long and unnecessary IMO . It should be chopped off as it was making the audience who were wanting to see the parliament proceedings more than the fight a bit impatient. Also Ajit Doval’s ( Indian James Bond) character was totally omitted, I wonder why ?
overall, The methodical preparations and research that went into before abrogating article 370 is so well told. I will watch it again on OTT.

After a long long time, had the urge to Watch any movie the second time within two months . I loved it even more the second time. This time I had the luxury of fast forwarding the totally unnecessary fight in the climax.
Revisited Uri too, that movie also still holds the attention extremely well. The only jarring thing I noticed this time was how could such a senior IB officer ( who gets to brief the PM) be deputed as a nurse to protect the family. LOL !!
