“It’s not just about waxing lyrical about the 5 great movies you saw. It’s also about having something to say about the 80 other mediocre ones”
“For others, movies are a relaxation from work. For me, it IS work”
Preach!
Words to remember if you wanna be serious about making this your vocation. Especially WRITTEN film criticism.
I almost equal your numbers when it comes to my monthly movie watching quota, but the programming is ENTIRELY under my control. Re-watches, a Tarantino marathon, Jackie Chan king fu flicks of the 80s, John Woo’s HK Bloodshed Era Phase etc etc…
The rigor and discipline to see pretty much most of what drops out of the assembly line, to analyze them, and then to WRITE about them (there’s a reason I capitalize write) is on another level.
I don’t watch a lot of youtube reviews, that 3-5 minute window is barely a step above the “Ya movie ok, acting so-so, some nice songs” comments you get at the office pantry owing to the time frame (unless of course you’re Kevin Smith who can give a 2 hour opinion on Rise Of The Skywalker). They’re the veggies for me. A written review’s my steak.
Nice interview B, even if it’s the rare occasion of you being at the receiving end 🙂
