Echoing Pranesh’s sentiments, I would love to have subtitles on these interviews.
Does anyone know what happened to the child artist in this film? IMDB lists only one more film after Ghatashraddha, and that one also appears to be miscategorized (Rajesh Khanna’s Dhanwan).

I had to bail on this interview due to the lack of subtitles, but I watched Ghattashraddha instead, on a terrible quality YouTube link. Terrific film. As I watched I realized that the Hindi film Diksha, which I saw many years ago, was an adaptation of Ghattashraddha.
I look forward to seeing the restoration, as the quality of the YouTube upload is atrocious. I might give this interview another shot and see if I can understand any of it.

PremRogue, I also recall watching both of these movies a long time ago. If my memory serves me right, the character portrayed by Nana Patekar has a significant role in the Hindi version, whereas in the Kannada version, his presence is minimal.
The Kannada version is truly a classic, displaying a complexity and depth unparalleled by other films centered around child protagonists. It’s remarkable how many scenes seamlessly blend naturalistic storytelling with profound symbolism. Take, for instance, the moment when Nani is coerced into leaping into the river by his peers, or when he’s compelled to touch a statue of snakes, thereafter gripped by fear of their bite. These scenes operate on multiple levels, serving as quaint childhood anecdotes while also delving into deeper, psychosexual themes, leaving a lasting imprint on Nani’s character and psyche.
Those two scenes have etched themselves into my memory, yet I’m certain that the film holds numerous other intricacies waiting to be discovered upon revisiting.

Filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli is grateful to these legendary filmmakers for picking his film.
